My four-year-old son had just walked off the school bus when he asked me to pick him up. He looked like he had a long day of preschool. So I did.
We walked, mommy walked. He rested his head on my shoulder and snuggled into my neck. A feeling came over me that time would only allow me to carry him (this way) just a little longer. And to enjoy it.
We were only a short distance from the front of the door when I mentioned to him that he was getting heavy.
And he said, “No I’m not.”
And I said, “Yes you are.”
And he said, “No I’m not.”
And I said, “Yes you are.”
(We all know this conversation could have went on forever.)
As I put the key into the door I asked him, “How would you know how heavy you are sweetie, I’m doing all of the carrying?”
“Yet it was our weakness he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down…” Isaiah 53:4

Oh yes, those ‘am not/am too’ arguments can go on forever.
I like how you followed your story with the scripture. I hadn’t thought about our burdens weighing Him down like carrying a (heavy) child.

I remember the day I had to tell my daughter she was too heavy to carry. She was unhappy. Now, she is 5″10 and I am 5″ almost 2 inches. She can carry me.
